All assignments have been submitted and spring break is just around the corner – when is a better time to find some time between your well-deserved rest to invest in your future by attending one of the events listed below? Check out the list of the best events in St Andrews that will help you come another step closer to your dream career.

1) The Student Entrepreneurs Cafe
When: Tuesday, 8th of March, 7.30pm
Where: Rector’s Cafe
Why: To find inspiration by listening to successful student entrepreneurs from the Bubble. Speakers include Dan Sargent, founder of BetStatsPro, Ondrej Farkas, co-founder of two startups including ZyraWorks and an IT consulting company, and Primrose Adjepong, co-Founder of the Butterfly Effect, a social enterprise based in Ghana. Do you have an idea but don’t know where to start? Don’t miss this chance to ask for advice and guidance.

2) ‘Winter Is Coming: ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the Current Terrorist Threat’ by Professor Bruce Hoffman
When: Wednesday, 9th of March, 5-6pm
Where: School 3
Why: To stay informed on one of the most important issues shaping the world in which we live. In addition to being one of the founders of St Andrews’ Center for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, Bruce Hoffman is a former counterinsurgency strategy advisor in Iraq and an author of multiple books on terrorism. This is certainly not a talk to be missed.

3) Leadership in practice: Planning
When: Wednesday, 9th of March, 6.30-8.30pm
Where: Gateway Lecture Theatre 4
Why: Because if we were all a little better at planning, we could have saved ourselves a lot of unnecessary stress. Luckily, it is not too late to improve! Seize the chance to attend this free workshop organised by the Professional Skills Curriculum and never panic about balancing your studies and extracurricular activities again.

4) Accenture Consulting Panel
When: Thursday, 10th of March, 7.30pm
Where: Hotel du Vin
Why: To figure out whether consultancy at Accenture is really something for you. Interacting with the people who work in the industry, especially at an established multinational management consulting services company, is a great opportunity to determine whether this career path and firm are good fit.

5) Invest in a book and read it
When: During the two glorious weeks of spring break
Where: Wherever you fancy (Hopefully somewhere warm!)
Why: Choose a goal or a skill you would like to learn, and I bet there had been at least a dozen books already written (and five others just going to press) giving step-by-step advice on how to achieve it. There is no better time to finally give yourself the chance to actually learn something that might be useful for your chosen path.
